Tokyo, Japan

Neon nights, ancient shrines & the world's most electric summer festivals

August 2026

Join the Adventure

Destination — Tokyo

Empowered Women Travel is heading east! Tokyo is a city of beautiful contradictions — centuries-old shrines tucked between glass skyscrapers, quiet tea houses a block away from the busiest pedestrian crossing on Earth. It is one of the safest major cities in the world for women travelers, spotlessly clean, and connected by trains that run to the second.

True to our mission, this trip supports women every step of the way. Japan has a fast-growing community of women-led businesses — from family ryokan inns and tea ceremony masters to female sushi chefs breaking into a traditionally male craft — and our tours seek them out, dine with them, and shop with them. Come be inspired, and be an inspiration.

August 2026 — Summer Festival Adventure

August is Tokyo at its most alive, and 2026 is a special year. Our summer trip is timed so you can experience:

  • Fukagawa Hachiman Grand Festival (mid-August) — one of Tokyo's three great Shinto festivals, held in its full "grand" form only once every three years — and 2026 is the year. Fifty-plus portable shrines carried through the streets while crowds joyfully drench the bearers with water.
  • Summer Comiket — August 15–16 at Tokyo Big Sight — the world's largest independent comic and pop-culture convention, with hundreds of thousands of fans and creators.
  • Summer fireworks season — including the Itabashi Fireworks Festival on the Arakawa River, famous for its 700-meter "Niagara Falls" cascade, and the Edogawa Fireworks launched over both banks of the river.
  • Bon Odori season — neighborhood dance festivals in yukata (summer kimono) all over the city; visitors are welcome to join the circle.
  • Tokyo Idol Festival — the world's biggest celebration of idol culture, marking its 15th anniversary in 2026.

Expect warm days, festival nights, mouthwatering street food, and the sisterhood our travelers know from Havana — this time in yukata.

Tech & Innovation Conference Trip

Traveling for business? Level up your career and your passport at the same time. Tokyo's late-summer conference season includes:

  • AI Expo Tokyo Neo — August 5, 2026 — artificial intelligence, blockchain, quantum computing and the digital workforce.
  • Cybertech Tokyo — Hotel New Otani (early September; 2026 dates to be announced) — one of Asia's leading cybersecurity conferences, drawing government officials, executives and startups from around the world.
  • CODE BLUE (fall) — Japan's premier international security conference, if you'd rather come back for autumn foliage season.

We handle the accommodations, transfers and after-hours cultural experiences; you bring your conference badge. Evenings and free days feature our women-owned business tours, so the trip empowers even when you're off the clock. Conference registration is separate and not included.
